I assume this beautiful manual counter was designed to be attached to a printing press, and counted the copies running through the machine. The handle that comes out the side has holes for attaching it to a piece of equipment, and increments the white counters (viewed through the oval windows) each time you click it in the down position! The decorative scroll work and embossed company name on the face of the unit are remarkable considering this was used in a 'factory' setting. What an amazing piece of history!

The Duplex Printing Press Company of Battle Creek, Michigan, revolutionized the newspaper printing industry. Standard sheet fed presses of the time only printed on one side of the paper, in one direction only. By inventing a press (in 1885) that printed both ways (coming and going), they greatly changed the future of newspaper printing, and their enormous presses were shipped all over the world.

The body of the counter measures 8 1/2” wide by 2 1/2” tall by 2” deep; the handle makes the total length 11”, and the mounting tabs extend about a half and inch from the body. Very solid, weighs close to 3 pounds. Good, used vintage condition - the handle does still increment the counters when you move it! Stamped with '24318' on the back.

I am happy to ship internationally - please convo me for a quote if your country is not listed.
