This is an exceptionally cute and collectible little piece of folk art. It is a sewing bird, or an accessory used as a sewing help. These are getting hard to find and I was very delighted to find this one. It stands approx. 10 1/2" to the top of the scissors, it is approx. 5" in diameter across the base. The little bird is handcrafted from wood, there is a small pin cushion on the bird's back, his bill is the pointed end of the scissors and the handle of the scissors give him a cute top knot. The base has 5 spool holders for thread. The dark green paint has a wonderful patina. The scissors are missing their tips, but they are stil usablel and sharp, they are marked "Dayton". Everything you see in the photo is included. It has a handwritten inscription on the underside of the base which reads " Dell Lee Mystery Lady 1939", How cute is that?
